All Signs Point to Recycling

What to do? What to do with that gallery of campaign yard signs poking out of your lawn? Why, recycle them, of course! Check out these Recycling Do’s and Don’ts (plus a few bonus hints) of how to move those signs on to their next lives and make your grass happy once again.

Recycling Do’s and Don’ts

• DO strip signs off of the metal wire and place standard paper-, cardboard-, or corrugated plastic-based campaign sign tops in your City of Austin recycling bin. Your bin will be picked up from the curb during your regularly scheduled recycling day.

• DO NOT place the metal wires from the campaign signs in your City of Austin recycling bin, because the wires can get easily wrapped around the recycling machines and could cause damage.
Also:
• DO NOT place plastic wrap-style sign tops in your bin as well.
These are urgent notices from our good friends at Austin Resource Recovery!

• DO recycle standard campaign signs including the metal wires by dropping them off at the City’s Recycle & Reuse Drop-Off Center located at 2514 Business Center Drive, Austin, 78744 during the center’s normal hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

• DO utilize your apartment complex and condo recycling dumpster. They can accommodate all sign parts.

• DO bring any signs of any material, including the metal wires to our pals at Austin Creative Reuse located at 6406 Middle Fiskville Rd, #1801, a fabulous nonprofit shop that takes donated craft and supply materials and sells them for insanely low prices to the general public. If you have a large number of signs, please carefully wrap tie them together to make it easier for the very busy volunteers.

Now go clean up that yard and make it pretty for the next election!
